Artist Statement :  It is the process of design, sketching and painting that intrigues me. I am enlightened by the mediums of watercolor, ink and graphite and am always excited by discovery in how paint flows, what oddity that I can add to a painting or when I dip into my paints, what will give me a new texture onto my painting. Incorporating painting, calligraphy, illustration and pure drawing, together or individually gives me the chance to express emotion through the visual and written works and to have some fun while doing so. When I begin my projects I ALWAYS have a pencil value sketch or if painting, a painted value sketch using INDIGO or PAYNE’S GRAY. If I don’t do that, I set my self up for disappointment.” TRAINING I have attended and trained in workshops and courses with the best - John Salminen, Frank Francese, Andy Evenson, Raleigh Kinney for watercolor, Mike Kesceg, Michael Sull, Harvest Crittenden, and Martin Johnson for calligraphy. I am a current licensed art instructor with the State of Minnesota, grades K-12.

 

Galleries/Awards: Artwork is featured specifically up at Buffalo Plaid, Nisswa, MN and I am currently working with FINE ART AMERICA, and other ventures to get my work “out there” more. My art abilities have allowed me to create in different levels such as painting “found objects” like family heirloom barnwood, satelite dishes, giant stage backdrops. I have received many, many commissions thru my calligraphy artists’ site, most recently creating family trees. I have received many accolades and awards for my work which I am proud of.

Memberships: Memberships include Colleagues of Calligraphy, New York Mills Cultural Center, Minnesota Watercolorists Society, Red River Watermedia Society, Northstar Watermedia Society, Great River Arts Association, Artists of Minnesota and last but not at all least, Central Minnesota Watercolorists.
