Don’t miss this month’s membership meeting at the Paramount! Come early for the Paramount Art Show Reception for CMW in the Paramount’s lobby. Join and support fellow CMW artists at 5 pm and then attend the regular monthly meeting downstairs at 6 pm. The Art Show Reception is open to the public!
The demo artist for the evening is Dan Wiemer: Good painters are first good designers. Dan will demonstrate concepts that allow you to find strong abstract shapes in your scenes. He will teach about the different types of contrasts and how they add drama to your painting. The demo will focus on painting with watercolor and acrylics like a printmaker – finding and constructing negative shapes to create mosaic-like paintings.
CMW welcomes interested artists to attend one meeting prior to needing to join. Come and check us out!

Dan is a landscape artist working in watermedia, capturing his love of the natural world. He paints both en plein air and in his Red Wing, Minnesota, studio. Dan trained as a graphic designer (with a BA from Iowa State University), and was past president of the Minnesota Watercolor Society. His background allows him to play with the shapes and textures of landscape, finding the rhythms in a scene. He doesn’t try to replicate nature and instead interpretively distills, stylizes, and translates when he paints. “For me, the process is the product. I want my work to reflect an energy and directness.”
